DR. MICHAEL J. BARNES

Former Professor & Academic Dean of Alliance University Business School Former Director of the Faculty of Management at SRM Institute of Science & Technology, and Dean of the School of Entrepreneurship & Management Studies, SRM University-AP.

Previously, he was Professor of Jindal Global Law School (JGLS) teaching Finance & Management and was Director of the University Office of Alumni & Development. Later, he became the founding Dean of Jindal School of Banking & Finance (JSBF) and Director of the JGLS Master of Business Laws Programme.

Dr. Barnes first came to India in 2010 as founding Dean and Professor of Management of Jindal Global Business School at O.P Jindal Global University, NCR Delhi.

Immediately before coming to India he had served as Academic Dean for S.P. Jain School of Global Management’s Global MBA Programme in the twin campuses of Dubai and Singapore.

His wide experience includes being Principal and Chief Academic Officer of The British College in Kathmandu, Nepal, and Chair of the Accounting & Finance department within the Faculty of Economics & Commerce at Hoa Sen University in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. For three years (2012-15) he was the founding Dean and Professor of the School of Business & Economics at Tan Tao University, near Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

After earning his Doctor of Management degree in 2000 from Case Western, Dr. Barnes was appointed Assistant Dean for Action Learning & Corporate Liaison at the Weatherhead School of Management, Case Western Reserve University (Ohio), and later MBA Director for the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota.

He was then named inaugural John F. Fiedler/BorgWarner Endowed Chair in Global Business Studies at Kent State University, Ohio, USA (2003-07) teaching finance, economics, global strategy, and international business.

Before entering full-time academia in 2000, and after gaining his BSc (Hons.) from the London School of Economics and MBA from Stanford in 1974, Professor Barnes worked for 25 years in international banking including appointments as executive director of Lazard Asset Management (UK) and Union Bank of Switzerland (UBS), deputy general manager of The Industrial Bank of Japan (IBJ), and investment officer with The World Bank, Washington DC.
